We understand that more than one-third of UK houses are harder to insulate because they have solid walls. Why then are grants available only for cavity wall insulation? We are 60 but cannot claim to insulate our very old solid house walls.

Insulating Solid Walls
I'm in a similar situation with my solid wall property, with existing render in a very poor state. I'd like to take the opportunity to install external insulation, but despite websites like the Energy Saving Trust and others saying that it costs £4,000 - £5,000 to have the average house treated, I've had three quotes of between £15,000 - £18,000!
Added to that, I live in Aberdeenshire and despite the fact that we've got some of the worst climate conditions in the UK, no grants are available, and in any case most of the firms that do this work are in the south of England!
Looks like I may be forced to get a builder to stick standard render on, and just give up any idea of being either energy-efficient, or warm!
Insulating Solid Walls
Hello,
i have just joined this forum today so sorry if my repsonse is too late. I am a insulated render system deisgner who works with a network of installers across the country and depending upon the size of your property i am sure it can be done in the Stomix System considerable less than the £15/18K mark.
we have just priced some large four bedroom semi detatched houses in Carlisle and the cost for them is approx £6500 each, are there are a few of them which helps on price but nevertheless the price shouldn't go up that much for a one off in Aberdeen. if you still want your property doing let me know and i will get a price for you.
