Government grants are available to help with the cost of installing Solar Electricity Panels. You can receive up to £2,500 towards the installation cost. Click here for more details
Installation costs: Solar PV is quite expensive to install, with typical installation costs between £4,000 and £18,000 (before grants are taken into account).
As you can see there can be quite a variation in installation costs depending on what type of system you choose, and how easy it is to install. An installer will help you decide which type of system is best for you, and give you an exact quote. Plus remember that you can reduce the cost of an installation by up to £2,500 through government grants.

Running costs and savings: Very little maintenance is generally required and Solar PV should generate electricity for a long time to come - around 20 to 25 years. Solar panels normally require little maintenance (apart from the occasional clean), but the wiring and components of the system should be checked by a qualified technician every few years.
And of course you have no fuel costs to pay, because you are using the earth's natural energy to generate power.
The cost savings vary depending on the location and size of the device you have installed. As a rule of thumb you could expect the average Solar PV installation, of about 2.5 kwp, to save about £200 per year on your electricity costs, and about a tonne of carbon dioxide.
This means that you can expect a payback on your investment in about 10 to 12 years, and investment that is definitely worth considering.
